Welcome to the website of the South West Region of The Caravan Club

Thank you coming to our Website. I hope you find it interesting and informative.

The Caravan Club Limited has 10 Regions nationally and the South West Region is one of the largest. We have ten local Centres throughout our area. The most northerly being Gloucestershire, with Avon covering the Bristol area. Devon & Cornwall is the most westerly and we  travel east through Somerset to West Dorset, East Dorset, Wiltshire, West Hampshire into East Hampshire, our most easterly point, while across the Solent to the south is our small neighbour, the Isle of Wight.

All these Centres have active programmes of events. Information about them can be found through their websites by clicking on the links built into this website. We have also prepared a ‘What’s on’ leaflet giving a quick example of some of the varying events happening within the Region. It is on this website and also that of the Caravan Club itself. The Centres give you the opportunity of being close at hand to what’s on and enjoying the local events as well as the activities organised by the Centre themselves.

Finally while talking Centres may I direct you to the Wessex Rally screen. The Wessex Centres Rally takes place this year on the Frome showground. It is an inter-Centre competition event, staged over the August Bank holiday weekend, with the Centres vying for the Wessex cups. Its great fun, competitive and very visitor friendly, while offering a memorable weekend for all who attend.

During 2008 the Regional Council is running the following events for the benefit of all Club Members.
Firstly – a Members Question Time at the Club Site on Exeter racecourse is taking place on Saturday April 12th   Entry is by pre-issued tickets due to catering restrictions. And a rally on the Club site is available and being organised by the Devon & Cornwall Centre.
Secondly – Meet the Council Members and Club Officials at the newly opened Centenary Site at Heathfield, Bransgore, near Christchurch in the New Forest. Saturday September 13th is the date. and all are welcome.
Finally – The South West Region AGM takes place at Brean Sands on Saturday November 9th. with a rally organised by the Somerset Centre.
Full details of all these functions are shown on our events page.

You may wonder about the reason for the Regions existence; what it does, who are its members and what is its function? The Constitution set up by the Caravan Club states that the objects of the Region shall be:-

  1. To represent general matters of Club or Centre interest to the Club Council.
  2. To provide a means whereby the  Caravan Club interests of those Members living in the area may be fostered.
  3. To provide a forum to discuss and solve local problems at Regional level.

The affairs and activities of the Region shall be controlled and managed by a Regional Council comprising:-

  1. Chairman, Vice-chairman, Hon. Secretary, and Hon. Treasurer. They are elected annually at the            Annual General Meeting of the Region.
  2. Two Delegates appointed by the Committee of each Centre within the Region.
  3. Up to three co-opted Members, being current Club Members not registered with any Centre and deemed suitable by the Club Executive Committee.

The Council meet regularly throughout the year with Members of the Executive Committee and Nominated Members living in the area in attendance. The Annual General Meeting is usually held in November and is open to all Members of the Caravan Club. The Region appoints the two Nominated Representatives who represent the Region at the Club Council.
This is a ‘brief’ explanation of our Regional functions. Should you require any further information please contact me.

Before closing I would just like to say a big thank you to our Webmaster and Website co-ordinator for all their hard work on this website and keeping it updated for you, our Members.
To all my Officers and the Council Members, my thanks for your contributions and assistance, it’s really appreciated. I look forward to working with you all in 2008.

Finally to you the Club Members: I and my Committee will endeavour to represent you all to the best of our ability. We are all Club Members and thoroughly enjoy our hobby and will do all we can to help you enjoy your Club Membership.

Have a great year in 2008.
